Dear Adventurer,

January, February and March bring some of the best road-tripping conditions of the year – open trails, warm days, and the freedom of the open road. It’s the perfect window to start planning your next adventure, with our best rates of the year to make it even easier.

If a Jan-Feb-Mar trip has been on your mind, now is the time to lock it in.

Plan Ahead
Why Book Now

Vehicles move quickly once a season gets going. September and October are filling up already, and even the quieter Jan-Feb-Mar months are starting to see early enquiries come in. Booking now, rather than later, means more choice of vehicle, more flexibility on dates, and one less thing to rush.

  • Limited vehicles for Jan-Feb-Mar – our quieter months are becoming less quiet every year, and early bookers get first choice.
  • Best availability right now – the widest selection of vehicles across every range is available today, not closer to the date.
  • No rush fees for early bookings – booking ahead means avoiding the late-booking charges that apply closer to departure.

Kalmeer Lodge – Wildlife
Giraffe family at Kalmeer Game Reserve

Kalmeer Lodge isn’t just where your journey starts – it’s part of the experience. Guests stay in comfortable, well-appointed lodge accommodation set right in the reserve, with giraffe, zebra, nyala and other game moving freely across the property. It’s the kind of first night (or last night) that turns a rental collection into the beginning of the adventure itself.

Worth building into your trip – see what’s waiting for you.

One of our recent Namibia groups, in their own words:

“We are Maarten, Rutger, and Frank, and we are a group of friends from the Netherlands (Amsterdam, Haarlem and Zandvoort). We met during our first city marathon training and became close friends training for and finishing several others (New York, Boston, London, Berlin, and more). For the past ten years, we have become (ultra) trail runners. We have run, among others: Marathon des Sables, Trans Alpine Run, Ultra Trail Monte Rosa, Eiger Ultra Trail, the Pyrenees Stage Run, and the Bali Ultra Trail.

Their latest challenge: the Namibia Wild Trail.”

They took on the Namibia Crossing with Wildrun – the kind of terrain our Safari and Expedition ranges are built for.

Expert Advice
Gravel Road Driving – What You Need to Know

Gravel driving takes a different mindset to tar. A few basics make all the difference once you leave the blacktop:

  • Stay central where it’s safe to do so – loose stones gather at the road edges and are a common cause of punctures.
  • Keep to 80 km/h or below – gravel demands a slower pace than tar, for good reason.
  • Run your tyres at 1.8 Bar – the right pressure for most gravel conditions.
  • Watch your following distance – stay out of the dust thrown up by the vehicle ahead, and clear of stones kicked up onto your windscreen.
Tour Inspiration
The Road North: Cape Town to Namibia

Most people picture flying straight into Windhoek to start a Namibia self-drive. But driving up from Cape Town turns the trip into something bigger – your adventure starts the moment you collect your vehicle, not two flights and an airport rental desk later.

The road north takes you through Namaqualand and the Richtersveld – stark, empty country unlike anything on the Garden Route or Kruger circuit – before crossing into southern Namibia, where the scenery turns properly dramatic and the crowds thin out fast. It is a proper overland journey, not just a transfer to your destination.

It is also worth noting: starting and ending your loop right here at our Cape Town base is the simplest and most cost-effective way to do it. Ask your Adventure Consultant about the best way to route your trip.

Self-Drive Route
Cape Town to Southern Namibia
1
Cape Town – Collect your Berg 4×4 vehicle at Kalmeer, our base just outside the city, and head north.
2
Namaqualand & the Richtersveld – Days of dramatic desert scenery before the Namibian border.
3
Fish River Canyon – Cross into southern Namibia to one of the continent’s most spectacular natural landmarks.
4
Keetmanshoop & beyond – Push north into the heart of Namibia, or loop back south – your call.
